History & Significance
The Manibandh Shakti Peeth is One of the 51 Shakti Peethas, sacred Shrines associated with the legend of Maa Sati and Lord Shiva. According to hindu mythology, when Maa Sati Sacrificed Herself In Her Father daksha’s Yagna, a Furious Lord Shiva Carried Her Body across the universe. To restore cosmic balance, Lord Vishnu used His Sudarshan Chakra to cut Her Body into pieces. The Parts Fell on earth and Formed Powerful Shakti Peethas.
At pushkar, Maa Sati’s Wrists (Mani-Bandh) are believed to Have Fallen, and hence this Place is known as Manibandh Shakti Peeth.
Here:
- The presiding Deity is Maa Gayatri, Representing wisdom and purity.
- Lord Shiva is worshipped as Sarvanand Bhairav.
- This Temple is unique because most Shakti Peethas are associated with Fierce Forms like Maa Kali or Maa Durga, but Here, The Divine Mother is revered as Maa Gayatri, the Vedic Goddess of knowledge and the Maa Gayatri Mantra.
